Matthew Carver

It is an absolute honor to be nominated alongside five of my classmates for this award. I am truly grateful to have shared my journey at Canisius High School with each of you.

My time at Canisius has been shaped by one of the core elements of the Jesuit tradition – Cura Personalis, or care for the whole person. Whether it was teachers supporting us in our academic growth, club moderators dedicating their time to help us build and develop our extracurriculars, or coaches challenging us to strive for excellence on the field, each of them modeled what it means to care for the whole person. For that, I am deeply grateful, as they have all played an important role in shaping the man I am today.

I have also been fortunate to learn alongside classmates who consistently lived out these same values. Each person ensured no one was ever left behind, whether it be in the classroom, at practice, or at school events. There was always a sense of love and family that made the experience behind the Blue Doors more meaningful than I could have ever expected. I am truly thankful to have walked these hallways with so many amazing people.

Canisius has given me far more than an education; it has given me a family that has helped me grow as a student, an athlete, but most importantly as a person. I am grateful to have been part of a class, and school, that truly embodies what it means to be Men for Others, and I am honored to have walked with each and every classmate, faculty, and staff member that was a part of the past four years at Canisius High School.

Thank you 1180,

Matthew A. Carver
