Jack Ganci

It is a true honor and blessing to be nominated for the prestigious Mr. Canisius award alongside Dylan, Pat, Hector, Jack and Dan. More than half of these men are my former teammates, and all have been role models to me and to the school-wide community. I am fortunate to have known these great people over my four years.

As a fourth generation Canisius student, there was no debate about where I was going to go for high school. My father practically burned all the mail from other schools and didn’t let me shadow anywhere else. Looking back I’m incredibly grateful that my Dad made the decision for me to send me to such a great school.

These have been the most formative years of my life and time very well spent. At Canisius, I have grown in mind, body and spirit. Academically I have been given a stepping stone for future success. The care that teachers, staff members and coaches have for students here is unlike any other. They have pushed me to be vulnerable and are a key reason for my continued growth into a good man. It’s so easy to be vulnerable with a community such as this. Whether on the field, in the hallways or in the classroom, there was never a moment I felt unloved.

I’ve learned so much throughout my four years that I will carry proudly throughout the rest of my life. Canisius has taught me how to be a leader and how to communicate in a well-mannered and effective way. Canisius has also taught me the meaning of humility and the importance of serving others. I’ve learned that a simple smile and a positive attitude goes a long way.

During my freshman year, I was worried that I wouldn’t find the brothers for life that everyone talks about. The alumni in my family and in my life are all still close friends with all the guys with whom they graduated. Now, at the end of my four years, I can proudly say I’ve found brothers for life and a lifelong home.

Thank you, Canisius.

God Bless,

Jack Ganci
