A lot has changed since the first day I walked through the Blue Doors with the Class of 2024. Despite our first two years being affected by the pandemic and the restrictions it imposed, it has been remarkable to see how our class has grown into Men For and With Others. Henry, Evan, Patrick, Matthew and Petros exemplify everything that Canisius stands for. I am honored to have been nominated alongside them.
The administrators, faculty, staff and coaches at Canisius have taught me what it means to be a Man For and With Others. Their dedication and support make Canisius a special place.
On the swim team, I’ve learned that winning isn’t as important as being a good leader for younger teammates. In the classroom, I’ve learned getting good grades isn’t as important as growing intellectually. Through campus ministry, I’ve learned the needs of myself aren’t as important as the needs of others.
But the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that love and kindness are the most important things in our lives. Even small actions, like Mr. Kenny greeting me on the way through the Blue Doors, or Ms. Evelyn asking how I am at the lunch checkout line, have a positive impact on my day. The past four years, I’ve been especially blessed with love from my family. Most importantly, I’ve learned the love that God has for each of us. If we take this love and “lean in” like Father Frederico says, we can make the world a better place.
Thank you Canisius and the Class of 2024,
Ryan Stravino
