If you told me 4 years ago that I would be given this honor, I don’t think I would’ve believed you. I was scared, to put it bluntly. I was terrified of failure and unsure of where I, a little boy who didn’t care much for sports, would fit in.
Back then, I could tell you the definitions of a lot of words: amicable, beguile, primordial (thanks Membean). Looking back though, there’s one word I don’t think I quite pinned: brother.
It wasn’t until I fully immersed myself in the Canisius community that I realized what brotherhood was all about. It’s about having someone’s back no matter what. It’s about going out of your way to help someone, even if you speak another language. It’s about loving each other, even when we’re at our worst.
I am truly humbled to be standing here amongst such outstanding individuals, each incredibly deserving. Shane’s discipline, Evan’s humility, Casey’s kindness, Patrick’s faith, and Thomas’ compassion are just some of their great qualities that I admire every day. They, and so many more, have all been great role models and leaders to me throughout my time here at Canisius.
As great as it has all been, my favorite part of Canisius hasn’t been the musicals, the service trips, the house games, or even the retreats; it’s been getting to know you all every day. Whether we were close friends or simple acquaintances, you have all had a profound impact on me that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing this time with me. Thank you for being my brother.
With deep gratitude,
