Crusaders again contribute thousands to 11 Day Power Play's fight against cancer
Keith McShea

An outstanding group of Crusaders were again a big part of the 11 Day Power Play's outstanding marathon fundraiser.

A Crusaders team has been captained by Mark Paradowski '99 each year of the event, and again the group was among the leading fundraising teams with about $14,000 in donations.

The Crusaders have raised around $135,000 for the 11 Day Power Play over the last six years.

A Crusaders-vs.-Crusaders game was part of the second day of this year's effort to battle cancer. Pictured are (left to right) Dylan Arnold '10, Chris Revekant '99, Tim Marren '99, Alexander Bielecki, Sr. '99, Mark Paradowski '99, Charles Castro '04 and Chris Brectel '99.

Among those who the team was playing for this year was Mark Bova '99, who received successful treatment for cancer about a year ago and is now married with a newborn baby girl.

The 11 Day Power Play continues through Sunday at downtown's LECOM Harborcenter.

“It was a pretty moving experience. … It was pretty surreal.”

Craig Hinchcliffe and several students spoke Wednesday about the CHS educational trip to Italy over Easter Break, which culminated in the group being part of a historical moment: Pope Francis’ final public appearance as he said “Buona Pasqua” – Happy Easter – and blessed those gathered in St. Peter’s Square on Easter Sunday.

“He was a Jesuit who knew and loved Jesus deeply,” said CHS President Fr. David Ciancimino, S.J. “Francis was a faithful servant of the Gospel who remained close to the people whom Jesus would be close to in our own time. He consistently called us all to greater mercy and compassion.”
