Nathaniel Sass ’19 began rowing his freshman year at Canisius. This summer, he was on the United States national team.
Sass will share his experience of becoming a world-class rower with the current Canisius team as he joins the program as an assistant coach for the 2021-22 season.
“It’s not often your fastest current alum is able to coach your current team members,” said Canisius head rowing coach RJ Rubino.
Last month, Sass rowed for the United States National Team in the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Racice, Czech Republic. Sass finished fourth in the lightweight pair along with teammate Collin Hay of Massachusetts.
Sass spent the last two seasons rowing for Boston University. He will be transferring to another program for the fall of 2022.
Sass also competed with his younger brother, Dylan Sass ’21, in the Summer National Rowing Championships in Camden, N.J., in July, finishing third in the under-23 four with coxswain.
