Canisius students, faculty, and staff celebrated the 2020 Walk for Canisius on Friday, November 6. In a change from previous years, this year’s walk did not start and end at school. Instead participants walked in their own neighborhoods, in many cases with family members or four-legged best friends.
The Walk for Canisius, also known as the Walkathon, is a Canisius tradition and other Jesuit schools across the country hold similar walks. The event is not just a fundraiser; it is a spirit-building event that students will remember throughout their time at Canisius and perhaps for years to come. The annual event holds a prominent place in the hearts of many alumni.
Canisius students achieved their fundraising goal this year, raising more than $59,000 which will help to ensure no student has to worry about financial hardships brought on by the pandemic that would impede their ability to continue their education at Canisius. A portion of the funds will also be directly invested into the school House system. The students also exceeded their stretch goal and earned a day off from school on the Monday following the Super Bowl.
Participants were encouraged to share their photos through social media using the hashtag #WalkCanisius. We've compiled some of the photos in a gallery which you can view by clicking here.
