The 40th annual CHS Food Drive continues! Contribute via canisiushigh.org/fooddrive

Our thanks to News4Buffalo for broadcasting live from our Higgins Hall foyer last week as students dropped off food on the final day of our CHS House System’s competition.

Watch the Ch. 4 story that featured Director of Campus Ministry Fr. Chuck Frederico, S.J., and Jude Delaney ’26 here:

Our students exceeded our school wide goal by filling hundreds of bags of food for those in need in Buffalo, and now you can continue to support the CHS Food Drive and our participation in the Great Ignatian Challenge through next Wednesday via canisiushigh.org/fooddrive

A $30 donation purchases a bag of food and ingredients for needy families in Buffalo — the items were selected by the organizations we are working with this year: St. Basil Food Pantry, the Response to Love Center, Agents for Advocacy (run by Mark Talley '07, in fourth photo) and St. Luke’s Mission of Mercy.

The wonderful Maria Love Foundation has helped distribute the food we collect to these great organizations.

CHS is on pace to again collect more than 10,000 pounds of food, which we have done for the past several years.

The CHS Food Drive is part of the 10th annual Great Ignatian Challenge, in which Jesuit High Schools from across the country come together in a friendly annual competition, raising millions of pounds of food over the last several years.

The Great Ignatian Challenge is the creation of Jim Rowen, an alumnus of New York City's Fordham Prep, who was inspired by the Jesuit mission of becoming “women and men for others.” Rowen has donated more than $1 million towards scholarship funds for students at Jesuit institutions who participate in the food drive; the size of the contribution each school earns depends on the amount of food it collects in the Challenge.

Requiescat in Pace, Joseph Scully ’50

We mourn the loss of Joe Scully, a most devoted supporter of Canisius High School who dedicated himself to his alma mater over five decades. The longtime national sales manager was a recipient of our John Barnes Award and the CHS Service Award. He was 92.
