Longtime board chair Robert Reger '66 receives highest CHS honor: The St. Peter Canisius Award
Keith McShea

During our 155th Commencement Exercises, the highest honor Canisius High School bestows – the St. Peter Canisius Award – was presented to Robert Reger ’66.

The Saint Peter Canisius Award recognizes extraordinary service to Canisius High School. Recipients are steadfast friends and benefactors who are zealous and passionate in their efforts to further the mission of Canisius High School. They are innovative leaders whose impact on Canisius will benefit generations of Crusaders.

Reger faithfully served Canisius High School for 18 years on the Board of Trustees, including 12 years as chairman.

Principal Tom Coppola '01 described Reger’s contributions to Canisius before President Fr. David Ciancimino, S.J., presented the award on the stage of Scaccia Auditorium.

“Throughout his tenure, Mr. Reger’s steady leadership and wisdom have been defining qualities. In partnership with Fr. Ciancimino, he has guided our institution through a period of remarkable growth and progress, ensuring that we are well-positioned for a strong and vibrant future.

“With deep gratitude, we present the Saint Peter Canisius Award to Mr. Robert Reger.”

Throughout this summer we have occasionally looked back at this most special day for the Class of 2025, and will continue to do so as we and our Class of 2026 prepare for our 156th Commencement on May 21, 2026.

Students and families interested in the excellence only found in a Jesuit education at Canisius – ranked as the Buffalo area’s “Best Catholic School” by Buffalo Business First – can learn more by arranging an on-campus experience via canisiushigh.org/visit or by joining us at our Open House on Oct. 5-6.

This place is special. Let us show you why.

Requiescat in Pace, Joseph Scully ’50

We mourn the loss of Joe Scully, a most devoted supporter of Canisius High School who dedicated himself to his alma mater over five decades. The longtime national sales manager was a recipient of our John Barnes Award and the CHS Service Award. He was 92.
