Joseph Salem is joining Canisius High School as the new head soccer coach. Coach Salem played professional soccer in 2010-2011 with the Puerto Rico Islanders of the North American Soccer League following his NCAA Division I playing career with the University of Tulsa where he was an All Conference USA First Team selection.

Most recently, Salem coached teams for the Cleveland Force Soccer Club in Ohio and served as the organization’s director of business development. He also previously worked as an assistant coach for the soccer programs at Case Western Reserve University and the University of Louisville.

Salem earned his MBA from the University of Louisville in 2015 and holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business from the University of Tulsa.

“I would like to thank Canisius’ Director of Athletics Jim Mauro, President Fr. David Ciancimino, S.J. and Principal Andrea Tyrpak-Endres for this wonderful and exciting opportunity,” says Salem. “I am looking forward to meeting and working with the students, athletes and faculty at Canisius.”

“The opportunity to hire a coach the caliber of Coach Salem doesn’t happen every day,” says Canisius Director of Athletics Jim Mauro. “Joe brings a wealth of knowledge and experience, and a track record of success, and I’m confident our student-athletes will learn much from him.”

Salem takes over a varsity soccer team that advanced to the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association championship game this past season.
