Mass of the Holy Spirit 2020

By CHS staff

The Canisius High School community gathered for its annual Mass of the Holy Spirit, although this year it was actually four Masses of the Holy Spirit.

Because of the need to limit the number of people at each Mass due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Jesuits at Canisius celebrated separate Masses for seniors, juniors, sophomores, and freshmen. Sophomore and freshman Masses were in the Kennedy Field House, while junior and senior Masses were in the Scaccia Auditorium.

The Class of 2021 also received their class rings and pins at the senior Mass of the Holy Spirit. Rings are typically distributed at a Mass toward the end of junior year, but that was not possible this past spring due to the pandemic.

The Mass of the Holy Spirt is a longstanding tradition within Jesuit education, and it's usually celebrated at Canisius within the first couple of weeks of the school year. The Mass serves to bless the students and faculty as they head into the new year.
