Canisius High School rowers had strong showing at Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia, PA, winning the U19 Men’s 4+.
Rowing as Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Club, Peter Spira '22 (3), Dylan Sass '21 (2), and Matt Talty '21 (bow) teamed up with St. Joe’s rower Lars Finlayson (stroke) and Hamburg High School's Seanna Zona (coxswain) to win by nine seconds over runner up Pennsylvania Athletic Club (Penn AC), with a time of 6:32.51.
This historic race, which dates back to 1880, took place on the 2000 meter Schuylkill River course. This Independence Day Regatta hosts some of the top crews in the Northeastern United States.
Two members of the winning U19 4+, Lars Finlayson (stroke) and Peter Spira (bow), placed third in the Men’s 2-.
Canisius rowers, rowing as BSRA, placed second in the U17 4+. The crew was composed of Adam Wittmann '23 (stroke), Evan Izatt '23, James Dodman '24, William Oh '23 (bow), and Owen Conley '24 (coxswain).
These crews will now train for the US Rowing Summer National Championship which will take place on the Cooper River, in Camden, NJ, July 13-15.
