Good Times at Jug Night

Whenever I’m asked what I do for a living I often joke that I throw parties for my friends. An oversimplification for sure, but one of my favorite parts of my job. 

So I was excited when - upon my return to Canisius in 2016 - I learned that I’d be planning our new beef and barrel event. It occurred to me that our other holiday gathering - Jug Night - had a similar aim: to give alums the opportunity to get together around the holidays. So we combined the two and “Jug Night” was reborn as a steak and whiskey celebration complete with a cigar tent. All of the vices you’d get piles of Jug for as a student rolled up into one night of post-holiday revelry! 

Over the past four years our Jug Night committee has built up the event from 80 alums to 180 alums. Current and former faculty such as Fr. Richard Zanoni, S.J. and Don Casciano often stop by to join in the fun. It has quickly become one of the alumni calendars signature events. 

Getting the gang together this year amidst a global pandemic obviously wasn’t going to happen, but we felt that it was important to continue the tradition. So our committee, and our partners at Marble + Rye, stepped up to put together a virtual Jug Night. This will be an event in which alums across the country can participate together, complete with steak, whiskey and cigars.
