High school students-athletes in New York State who participate in what the state has deemed "low risk" sports can now work out and practice with their teams as of September 21, 2020, following state health and safety guidelines for high school athletes. At Canisius, the low risk fall sports are cross country, soccer, golf, and rowing.
The Canisius cross country and soccer teams will need to complete ten team practices before they begin competition against other schools. The Canisius golf team will complete a two-day tryout before opening its season on September 25 against Bishop Timon High School at Crag Burn Golf Club.
Two other fall sports at Canisius -- football and volleyball -- fall into the high risk category. Volleyball is considered high risk in part because it is played indoors. These sports seasons have tentatively been moved to spring 2021.
The Canisius athletics department will be updating the online Canisius athletics calendar with the latest competition dates. Click here to view the calendar.
