Edmonton Oilers GM Stan Bowman '91 visits CHS prior to game at Sabres
Keith McShea

Our students were able to hear from one of the National Hockey League’s top executives during his work trip to Buffalo when Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman ’91 visited his alma mater this morning.

Bowman, in town for tonight’s Oilers game against the Sabres at KeyBank Center, spent time with students in the Madden Center for Global Learning, discussing his time at CHS and taking questions about a variety of topics, including key decisions that have to be made about evaluating players and at the negotiating table.

He spoke Monday morning to students taught by Bryce Hopkins ’08 who are taking our Marketing and Introduction to Sports Management classes, two of several dual-enrollment college courses CHS offers in partnership with Canisius University.

Bowman is in his second year with Edmonton, where he is also the executive vice president for hockey operations, after serving as general manager for the Chicago Blackhawks for parts of 13 seasons, during which he won three Stanley Cups.

Bowman, who also visited CHS in March, shared with students how he grew up in Buffalo, attended the University of Notre Dame and started his career in consulting before becoming an NHL executive on the business side of teams’ operations and then moving up on the hockey side.

Families and students interested in the benefits of being part of Western New York’s best alumni network and the excellence only found in a Jesuit education at Canisius – ranked as the Buffalo area’s “Best Catholic School” by Niche.com – can learn more by scheduling an on-campus experience at cansiushigh.org/visit

This place is special. Let us show you why.

Requiescat in Pace, Joseph Scully ’50

We mourn the loss of Joe Scully, a most devoted supporter of Canisius High School who dedicated himself to his alma mater over five decades. The longtime national sales manager was a recipient of our John Barnes Award and the CHS Service Award. He was 92.
