Civil War Roundtable

History buffs, it’s time to rally the troops and head to Canisius High School.

Canisius will host Turning Points of the Civil War: More than Just Gettysburg - An Interactive Discussion, Tuesday, February 25 at the school.

The event, which begins at 6:00pm will be a presentation on the crucial turning points of the American Civil War featuring Chris Mackowski, Ph. D.

Mackowski, a professor in the Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University in Allegany, New York, will present the scholarly discussion, allowing attendees to interact with him and others attending as the overall historical narrative unfolds.

Mackowski serves as the historian-in-residence at Stephenson Ridge, a historic site on the Spotsylvania battlefield in Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia.

Along with residing on the famous battlefield, Mackowski is the co-founder of the Emerging Civil War Series, a media and publication group dedicated to preserving, researching and discussing original scholastic materials about the history of the Civil War. Mackowski and 23 other listed contributors and editors have published more than 20 books on several events and campaigns that shaped American history during the 1800s.

The series, published by Savas Beatie along with the Southern Illinois University Press, has won several awards and publishes regularly updated blogs and podcasts. Members of the group also offer their services as speakers at roundtable events across the nation and as tour guides of America’s numerous Civil War battlefields.
