Bishop Fisher visits CHS
Keith McShea

We were honored to be visited by Bishop Michael W. Fisher on Wednesday afternoon during our second day of classes.

Bishop Fisher and Joleen Dimitroff, the Diocese of Buffalo’s Superintendent of Schools, stopped by to wish us good luck on the start of the school year.

President Fr. David Ciancimino, S.J., and Principal Tom Coppola ’01 led our guests on a brief tour, stopping in the Scaccia Auditorium and the Madden Center for Global Learning before visiting withb teachers and students in our classrooms.

Bishop Fisher yesterday published a back-to-school message – the entirety of which can be read at buffalodiocese.org – and which concluded with these words:

“In these early days and in all those to come in this new school year, please know of my fervent prayers for you, our educators, school administrators, support staff, volunteers and parents, and most especially for our children.

“I wish and pray for a year that brings to fulfillment all of the potential we see in them, and one that allows us to revel in the joy of their personal and collective accomplishments as they continue on their journey as young girls and boys, and eventually as women and men of faith, conviction and purpose.

“Together, let us give thanks to Jesus our Lord who, as a loving Teacher, guides our path and enlightens our minds and hearts to his ultimate truth. I look forward to visiting often with you in the classroom and in the shared celebration of the Liturgy of the Eucharist.”

Students and families interested in the excellence only found in a Jesuit education at Canisius – ranked as the Buffalo area’s “Best Catholic School” by Buffalo Business First – can learn more by reserving a spot at our Open House on Sunday, Oct. 5 or Monday, Oct. 6 via canisiushigh.org/openhouse

This place is special. Let us show you why.

Requiescat in Pace, Joseph Scully ’50

We mourn the loss of Joe Scully, a most devoted supporter of Canisius High School who dedicated himself to his alma mater over five decades. The longtime national sales manager was a recipient of our John Barnes Award and the CHS Service Award. He was 92.
