Canisius students and faculty celebrated the 2019 Walk for Canisius on Friday, October 4. Following breakfast in the cafeteria, students exited the school's blue doors, grouped by their Houses, to embark on the approximately three mile route that winds through the Elmwood Village and Delaware Park before circling back to Canisius.
Students achieved their fundraising goal this year which will benefit the school's new House system. They also exceeded their stretch goal and earned a day off from school the Monday following the Super Bowl.
Walkathons are a student fundraising tradition at many Jesuits school. Recent Canisius Walks have raised money to renovate the school's chapel and library, and funded a new bus for field trips. Instilling a culture of philanthropy, and educating students about the school's history of philanthropy, is an important piece of their Canisius education experience. Canisius is fortunate to have generous alumni and friends whose philanthropy has led to improvements and expansions at the school over the past 150 years. Canisius is the school it is today because of its generous benefactors.
