The Canisius community took part in the school’s annual coat drive on Wednesday, October 31st. Though simple compared to some of the school’s larger fundraisers, this long-standing tradition none-the-less supports the Canisius mission of service to the Buffalo community.
In exchange for either an old coat, an old pair of boots, or $5, students could forgo the standard dress code and wear more casual, Canisius themed attire. The collected items were then donated to various charities around Western New York to help the under-privileged and marginalized of society prepare for the cold Buffalo winter.
This year, Canisius raised $1,514.00 for Catholic charities and collected 30 pairs of boots and hundreds of coats. The coats will be cleaned by Colvin Cleaners and distributed to community centers, and the boots will be distributed through the Buffalo City Mission.
