Sophomore Earns Service Awards

The Amherst Youth Consortium (AYC) recognized Alex Bakshi '21 with the President's Volunteer Service award, presented by the Corporation for National and Community Service, for his work in the community. Alex spent 50 service hours in 2018 serving the less fortunate in the New Beginnings Food Pantry, building a playground at West Royal Parkway, working on the annual Amherst Warm Clothing Project for Amherst's Children In Need, cultivating and harvesting a vegetable garden, and serving at St. Christopher's clothing outreach program. He was also given the New York State Assembly Citation Award by Assemblywoman Karen McMahon for this service.

The AYC is an organization that strengthens character and builds responsibility through volunteerism in the Amherst community. Alex has been a member of the AYC since 2016 and has 115 volunteer hours to date.
