The Canisius High School rowing team's Lightweight 4 with coxswain has earned another national title. The crew completed its dominant season by winning a gold medal at the US Rowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Florida.
The boat of Zachary Porter '19, Charles Korn '19, Zachary Mecca '20, Nathaniel Sass '19, and coxswain John Weckerle '19 won in decisive fashion, crossing the finish line nearly eight seconds ahead of the second place boat.
This victory follows earlier wins at the Canadian Scholastic National Championship, the US Scholastic National Championships, as well as a New York State Championship.
The US Rowing Youth National Championships is the premier junior rowing championship of the season. Many of the participants and top finishers in this regatta are Junior National Team athletes who have won World Championship medals in 2018, and are poised to do the same in 2019.
This Lightweight 4+ from Canisius has demonstrated that they are among the best junior rowers in the world.
