Students engaged in debates and honed their public speaking, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills at the High School Model UN Conference at Canisius College on November 7. Eighteen Canisius students were among the delegates from 20 high school at this year's event. The day-long conference included simulations of the United Nations Security Council, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Economic and Social Council, and the Human Rights Council, among others.
The Canisius High School delegates prepared for weeks in advance to represent their assigned countries with respect to specific global issues. This year's topics included the rise of anti-Semitism and anti-Christianity, stopping global corruption, housing as a human right, global sustainable public transportation, and the rise of misinformation and protection of journalists.
