Four Canisius High School freshmen traveled to Canada the weekend of April 27-29 to take part in the SLAPSHOT program. SLAPSHOT stands for Student Leadership Award Program for Students High on Training and it's sponsored by Rotary clubs.
Anthony Buscaglia '21, Carson Kruk '21, Joshua Harbison '21 and Colin McCarty '21 went to Canterbury Hills, a retreat and learning center in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area in Ontario for the program. They participated in workshops to build teamwork skills, assertiveness, problem-solving ability, and presentation skills.
"It was a very positive experience," said Joshua Harbison, "I would definitely recommend it to others."
One hundred young student leaders participate in the program each year. Ideal candidates are high school students 15-18 years old who have demonstrated maturity, enthusiasm, and interest in making a positive difference in their schools and communities.
