The Junior Leadership Mass is a spring tradition at Canisius. On May 1, to welcome the Class of 2019 to their place at the helm of the student body – as the seniors conclude their final week of classes on Friday, May 3 – the school community gathered for a Mass which included the blessing of class rings and the presentation of the rings to the students.
In addition to establishing the rising senior class as the leader of the student body, the Leadership Mass is also a graced opportunity of gratitude and love within one's family. Parents, grandparents, and other loved ones of the current juniors were invited to be part of the Mass to celebrate their sons, grandsons, and family members, and in turn, be thanked for their great support. Several students whose relatives are Canisius alumni were given the rings of their fathers or grandfathers, carrying forward this long-standing tradition.
During the Mass, Fr. Richard Zanoni, S.J. preached about how the blue and gold rings, representing loyalty and excellence, are given to the rising seniors because they have been found ready for real leadership.
