The school was packed with competition from the library to Tripi Field to Kennedy Field House on October 25, 2019. One could sense a great deal of camaraderie among the student body during the first ever installment of the House Games. The House system is new at Canisius this year with each student assigned to one of six houses – Arrupe, Campion, Gonzaga, Jogues, Loyola, or Xavier.

It was a festive day at school as the students cheered on their classmates while wearing their colorful house shirts. The competing students could win points for their houses through five different events. The events included one representative at each grade level for all of the houses. The sprinting relay and the distance relay gave students the opportunity to show off their speed on Tripi Field. The swimmers in each house also put their abilities to the test during the swimming relay. The basketball shooting competition saw many three-pointers made in some very close battles. Finally, the quiz bowl gave students an opportunity to show off their knowledge as they competed in trivia games on various topics.

At the end of the day, Arrupe House walked away with the most points during the competition. Campion House and Xavier House would finish not far behind in second and third place respectively.

With the introduction of the new house system at Canisius, the House Games are one of many firsts for the school this year. The House Games may become an entertaining and competitive tradition at Canisius for many years to come.
