In a room filled with family, friends and coaches Thursday morning, ten Canisius High School seniors signed letters of intent to continue their academic and athletic careers at the college level. Making it to this point is the result of much hard work by these student-athletes over the last four years. The students listed below joined four other classmates who previously signed college commitments -- Jake Ruffolo (swimming, St. Bonaventure), Jack Collins (baseball, Binghamton), Jayce Johnson (football, Wagner), RJ Brandon (football, Dartmouth).


Christian Balkin, swimming, Canisius College
Canisius career highlights 
•    Four year team member
•    NYS Federation Qualifier in last 3 years
Senior Year:
•    All Catholic Champion - 200 Medley Relay, 50 freestyle
•    NYS Federation Qualifier 
     o    50 Freestyle - 21.80 - 18th Place Finish - originally seeded 63rd in the event - he was the last qualifier in the entire state with a time of 22.19
     o    200 Freestyle Relay - STATE CHAMPION - 1:24.88 - Automatic All American - School/League Record - originally  seeded 25th in the event
     o    400 Freestyle Relay - 3:08.43 - 3rd Place - All American Consideration status - School/League Record - originally    seeded 20th in the event

Jarrett Benton, football, Morrisville State College
Canisius career highlights 
•    Never played football prior to sophomore year
•    Key contributor to back to back Monsignor Martin titles and a state championship
•    All Catholic team - senior year 
•    Anchored offense that set school record for points

Randolph Chi, fencing, Drew University
Canisius career highlights 
•    Began fencing at age 10 
•    Competing in national events since age 13
•    Represented the Western New York division at the Junior Olympics national championships twice in foil
•    Competes year round in the United States and Canada
•    Coached by Charles Farnsworth of Buffalo Fencing Academy and also trains with coach Wes Roberts and the Buffalo Seminary team 
•    Drew University’s location, a short train ride to Manhattan, will allow him to train at the Fencer’s Club in Manhattan which trains a number of US World Cup and Olympic Fencers

Brad Currell, football, John Carroll University
Canisius career highlights 
•    Two-year two-way starter on offensive and defensive lines
•    Dominant blocker and leader on offense
•    All Catholic team - junior and senior years 
•    All WNY and ALL State teams - senior year 

Troy Gooch, volleyball, Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne
Canisius career highlights 
•    First Team All WNY
•    Monsignor Martin Player of The Year
•    All Tournament Team selection:  Clarence, Eden, Burnt Hills, Penfield, Hamburg
•    Played 110 sets
•    593 kills / 5.4 kills per set
•    49 blocks
•    66 aces
•    Outside hitter – senior year
•    Canisius Defensive Player of the Year – junior year
•    Key member of undefeated and number 1 ranked team – sophomore year

Christian “Mac” Granto, swimming, Cabrini University
Canisius career highlights 
•    Four year team member 
Senior Year:
•    All Catholic - 200 Medley Relay Champion, 200 Freestyle Champion, 200 Free Relay Champion, 100 Freestyle (2nd place), 
•    NYS Federation Qualifier 
      o    200 Freestyle Relay - STATE CHAMPION - 1:24.88 - Automatic All American - School/League Record - originally      seeded 25th in the event - personal best time by 1.5 seconds
      o    400 Freestyle Relay - 3:08.43 - 3rd Place - All American Consideration status - School/League Record - originally    seeded 20th in the event - personal best time by 1.8 seconds

Will McGennis, football, John Carroll University
Canisius career highlights 
•    Team captain - senior year
•    Two-year two-way starter
•    Dominated line of scrimmage on offense and defense
•    Multiple tackles for loss and multiple sacks in wins over league rival St. Joe’s
•    All Catholic team - junior year
•    All State selection, all WNY and a Trench Trophy finalist - senior year 

Keenan Ollison, football, SUNY Brockport 
Canisius career highlights 
•    Physical force on both sides of the ball 
•    Played almost every position on the field as a two-year varsity starter
•    Made several key catches, tackles and interceptions.
•    All Catholic team - junior and senior years
•    All WNY and All State teams - senior year

Allen Tompkins, squash, Franklin and Marshall College
Canisius career highlights 
•    Four year team member
•    Captain - senior year
•    Two National Division Championships 
•    17-1 at High School Championships
•    Ranked 93 in the US in Boys U19
•    Undefeated in league play during his high school career
•    Winner of the BSRA Junior Achievement Award for overall achievement
•    Numerous age group tournament wins

Brendan Trapper, basketball, St. John Fisher College
Canisius career highlights 
•    Great all-around game with 10 points and 12 rebounds vs. Park at home - senior year
•    Willing to do whatever it took for team to be successful
•    Consistently hard working player day in and day out at practice
