James Oh '20 will intern at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center this summer as part of its Junior Research Program. He will be working alongside Dr. Gal Shafirstein in the cell stress biology department studying the possibilities of using laser therapy to treat cancer.
James has some prior experience working with the medical sciences. As a freshman, he worked alongside a researcher at the Clinical Translational Research Center in the UB Medical Campus. Last summer, following his sophomore year, he participated in the Buffalo Health Care Exploration Program where he first heard about the Roswell Park Junior Research Program. This year, James took Mrs. Lisa Schrader's AP Chemistry class and she recommended him for the Roswell Park program.
As for the future, James says he definitely wants to pursue some sort of career in the bio-medical field. He is hoping the Junior Research Program will help him gain the practical lab experience necessary to succeed in both college and beyond.
