History

The Canisius history department aims to provide students with an intense and wide-ranging knowledge of all areas of social studies. This is done through the assignment of reading followed by meaningful classroom discussion and analysis. For freshmen and sophomores, a framework of world history is constructed from ancient times to the present. Junior and senior students study America, both its history, its government and the American economic system.

All students at Canisius are required to take a four-year sequence of courses in History and Social Studies in order to fulfill requirements for graduation. Advanced Placement (AP) level courses are offered each year for students who meet specific requirements.
