Volunteer Corps
Your education has opened
many new doors.
Consider returning to the big blue ones!
The Alumni Volunteer Corps (AVC) is an 11-month placement on the faculty at Canisius High School that doesn't require an education degree, or even a desire to pursue a career in teaching.
Alumni Volunteers (AVs) undertake many duties at 1180 Delaware such as tutoring, coaching, running retreats, mentoring, leading service projects, and classroom teaching. Depending on individuals' backgrounds and interests, work in finance, athletics, and development are also possibilities.
AVs live together in a well-furnished, school-provided house just a mile from campus, receive a monthly stipend and other benefits, are issued an iPad, and enjoy use of our state-of-the-art facilities. Plus, they have access to Canisius' powerful alumni network in Western New York, a tremendous advantage in today’s job market!
AVC is based on the philosophy of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps and challenges members to engage in simple living, hard work, and spiritual formation with a focus on community life. Remember the joy that came with serving others as a Canisius student? Remember the impact of your Kairos retreat? That one teacher who made a difference in your life? That same spirit of service is at the heart of AVC. It's a great opportunity to give back.
***THE AVC PROGRAM HAS BEEN PAUSED FOR THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR AND WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS AT THIS TIME***
For more information, contact Will Wolf ’09 at wolf@canisiushigh.org. Ideal candidates are Canisius High School alumni who graduated from college within the last two years.
