Mr. Canisius 2022 finalist: Steven Kropelin

“Jump in with two feet.” We all heard this advice when we stepped into the auditorium as Canisius freshmen.

From that very first moment, this has been a place to connect with others and break down barriers. Canisius has provided me with countless opportunities, but most of all, I feel like I have found a second family. I loved watching my brothers grow over the last four years; I have seen shy kids open up and become outgoing. I saw guys that used to put themself first start to put others first.

As a class and as a school we have encountered ups and downs: we failed tests together, we quarantined “together,” we faced loss together, we have gone on service trips together, we won state championships together. Through all of it, we have only grown closer.

That is one part of why Canisius is special. The other is the teachers. They have challenged us to be better students and people. They care about us.

Lastly, there are not enough words to describe the quality of character of the fellow Mr. Canisius candidates; they are some of the most selfless people I have ever met. I am honored to share the same nomination with them. Guys like them and many others are the reason that I would not trade my time at Canisius for anything.
