Dewayne Vass '20 led Canisius with 20 points in the Manhattan Cup championship game.


The Canisius varsity basketball team captured the school's eighth Manhattan Cup in 12 years on Tuesday, March 3, by defeating rival St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in the title game. In front of a sellout crowd in the Canisius College Koessler Center, Dewayne Vass '20 led the Crusaders with 20 points in the team's 63-54 victory.

After the game, Vass was named the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association Player of the Year. Joe Ciocca '21 and Max Dowling '21 earned All-Catholic First Team honors.

The season is not over for the Crusaders. The team heads for Long Island this weekend where they'll play St. Anthony's of Long Island in the New York State Catholic High Schools Athletic Association semifinal at 6:30pm on Saturday.
