Important Information for Seniors and Parents – Class of 2018

May 14 Update




  • Each Senior will be issued five (5) tickets for admittance to the auditorium for the graduation ceremony.  
  • No additional tickets will be issued for the auditorium. (Graduating senior does not need a ticket.)
    • Seniors can pick up tickets from the Guidance Office beginning Monday, May 1st.  Each senior will receive 10 graduation announcements along with the tickets.
    • EXTRA TICKETS FOR THE KENNEDY FIELD HOUSE:  If you made your request for extra tickets for the Kennedy Field House prior to May 1st, they will be given to your son when he picks up your 5 auditorium tickets and announcements. (Requests made after May 1st, see information below.)
    • Seniors must turn in their college acceptance and financial aid letters to the Guidance Office in order to receive tickets.
    • Seniors will sign for tickets, acknowledging they have picked up their tickets.


  • AFTER MAY 1ST :  Requests for tickets for additional seating in the Kennedy Field House will be accepted until May 14th.

o   Requests will be accepted via email only (no phone calls) at graduation@canisiushigh.org .

o   Extra tickets for Kennedy Field House seating will be available for pick up from the Principal’s Office beginning May 14th and must be picked up by 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 18th.

  • No person will be admitted into the event, either the auditorium or the Kennedy Field House, without a ticket.
  • The ceremony will be broadcast live on the school website.


Saturday, May 19, 2018 - Baccalaureate Mass, 3:30 p.m.

The Baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19that 3:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 651 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY.  This liturgy will be a fitting act of thanksgiving for the graduates, their families, friends, and the entire Canisius community. 

Tuesday, May 22, 2018 – Senior Awards Ceremony & Luncheon, 9:30 a.m.

The Senior Awards Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 22ndat 9:30 a.m.in the school auditorium.  Doors open at 9:00 a.m.The ceremony will recognize the achievements of Canisius High School Seniors in the presence of their parents, family, and the entire student body. (Parents of students being recognized will be notified prior to this event.) The shirt/tie/sport coat dress code is required for students.The ceremony will last approximately one hour.  Following the ceremony, seniors and their families will gather for a luncheon, hosted by the Parents’ Association.  (See details and invitation at the end of this document.)


Wednesday, May 23, 2018 – Senior Breakfast and Graduation Rehearsal, 9:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m.

Senior Class Breakfast will take place on Wednesday, May 23rdat 9:00 a.m. Rehearsal for the Graduation will start at 10:00 a.m.This is a mandatory practice for all seniors.  (Report Cards will be distributed; tuxedos that were ordered at school will be distributed; notification of any obligations owed to the school will be given at this time.) Dress Code: casual.   


Obligations to the School Deadline:  May 24th, Noon- At graduation rehearsal, any student who still owes items such as textbooks, library books, jug, tuition, etc., will receive a sheet specifying what is owed.  It is the student’s responsibility at that point to communicate this information to his parents to make sure remaining obligations are met. 

***All obligations to the school must be settled by noon, Thursday, May 24thin order to receive a diploma***


THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2018 - Commencement Ceremony, 6:30 p.m.

The Commencement Ceremony will take place on THURSDAY, MAY 24THat6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. It has been a Canisius High School tradition to hold the Commencement Ceremony at the school.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony traditionally takes no longer than 1 ½ hours. There will be handicap parking and wheelchair accessibility to the Canisius High School Auditorium and Kennedy Field House.


Graduation Attire– As has been tradition, each graduate will be attired in black tuxedo pants, a white dinner jacket, white shirt, black bow tie, black socks and black shoes.  The cost of your son’s graduation tuxedo is included in the senior activity fee. The usual CHS dress code applies relative to hair, shaving, earrings, etc.  Every graduate will act as a Canisius gentleman, showing respect for all in attendance.  Tuxes for graduation are to be picked up by the student at graduation rehearsal and returned after graduation directly to Tuxedo Junction.


CHSPA-Sponsored Post-Graduation Dinner– The CHSPA will sponsor a post-graduation dinner immediately following the ceremony. (See invitation & details at the end of this document.)
