Important Information for Seniors and Parents – Class of 2018


  • Each Senior will be issued five (5) tickets for admittance to the auditorium for the graduation ceremony. No additional tickets will be issued for the auditorium. (Graduating senior does not need a ticket.)
    • Seniors can pick up tickets from the Guidance Office beginning Monday, May 7th. Each senior will receive 10 graduation announcements along with the tickets.
    • Seniors must turn in their college acceptance and financial aid letters to the Guidance Office in order to receive tickets.
    • Seniors will sign for tickets, acknowledging they have picked up their tickets.
  • Beginning April 1st, requests for tickets for additional seating in the Kennedy Field House will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
    • Requests will be accepted via email only (no phone calls).
    • Email graduation@canisiushigh.org beginning April 1st and no later than May 14th.
    • Extra tickets for Kennedy Field House seating will be available for pick up beginning May 14th and must be picked up by by 3:00 p.m. May 22nd.
  • No person will be admitted into the event, either the auditorium or the Kennedy Field House, without a ticket.
  • The ceremony will be broadcast live on the school website.

We understand that the limited number of tickets for the auditorium may not be able to accommodate every family. If you have a younger son who attends CHS, he may attend as an usher (and would not need a ticket), therefore allowing one more ticket for your family. Please have him see Mr. Coppola or Mr. Flaherty if he would like to be considered as an usher at graduation.

Thursday, March 22, 2018 – Senior Parent Meeting, 6:00 p.m.

All senior parents/guardians are strongly encouraged to attend; to be held in the school auditorium. Topics to be discussed include senior prom, graduation and other senior year-end activities. Meeting should last one hour.

Seniors & Parents Retreat – Sunday, May 6, 2018, 9:00 a.m. – noon.For information, contact Ms. Riley at kriley@canisiushigh.org .

Senior Prom/Post-Prom – Friday, May 11, 2018, 7:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.at Statler City. Post-Prom following immediately at CHS. (Student does not have to attend prom to attend the post-prom activities.)

Saturday, May 19, 2018 - Baccalaureate Mass, 3:30 p.m.

The Baccalaureate Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 19th at 3:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 651 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY. This liturgy will be a fitting act of thanksgiving for the graduates, their families, friends, and the entire Canisius community.

Tuesday, May 22, 2018 – Senior Awards Ceremony, 9:30 a.m.

The Senior Awards Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 22nd at 9:30 a.m. in the school auditorium. Doors open at 9:00 a.m. The ceremony will recognize the achievements of Canisius High School Seniors in the presence of their parents, family, and the entire student body. (Parents of students being recognized will be notified prior to this event.) The ceremony will last approximately one hour. Following the ceremony, seniors and their families will gather in the cafeteria for a reception, hosted by the Parents’ Association. The shirt/tie/sport coat dress code is required for students.

Wednesday, May 23, 2087 – Senior Breakfast and Graduation Rehearsal, 9:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m.

Senior Class Breakfast will take place on Wednesday, May 23rd at 9:00 a.m. Rehearsal for the Graduation will start at 10:00 a.m. This is a mandatory practice for all seniors. (Report Cards will be distributed; tuxedos that were ordered at school will be distributed; notification of any obligations owed to the school will be given at this time.) Dress Code: casual.

Obligations to the School Deadline: May 24th, Noon - At graduation rehearsal, any student who still owes items such as textbooks, library books, jug, tuition, etc., will receive a sheet specifying what is owed. It is the student’s responsibility at that point to communicate this information to his parents to make sure remaining obligations are met.

***All obligations to the school must be settled by noon, Thursday, May 24th in order to receive a diploma***

THURSDAY, MAY 24, 2018 - Commencement Ceremony, 6:30 p.m.

The Commencement Ceremony will take place on THURSDAY, MAY 24TH at 6:30 p.m. in the school auditorium. It has been a Canisius High School tradition to hold the Commencement Ceremony at the school. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony traditionally takes no longer than 1 ½ hours.

Graduation Attire – As has been tradition, each graduate will be attired in black tuxedo pants, a white dinner jacket, white shirt, black bow tie, black socks and black shoes. Seniors will be measured for tuxedos at school in March, at school. If a student is not measured in school, they must go to the Tuxedo Junction at the Walden Galleria to be fitted. The cost of your son’s graduation tuxedo is included in the senior activity fee. The usual CHS dress code applies relative to hair, shaving, earrings, etc. Every graduate will act as a Canisius gentleman, showing respect for all in attendance. Tuxes for graduation are to be picked up by the student at graduation rehearsal and returned after graduation directly to Tuxedo Junction.

Graduation Announcements, etc. – Each graduate will receive (10) complimentary general announcements. These will be given to each senior when he picks up his tickets in the Guidance Office. Additional announcements and other graduation items may be ordered through the Balfour Company; information packets (to order additional announcements or other graduation items) were distributed to seniors on February 15th in homeroom. CHSPA-Sponsored Post-Graduation Dinner – The CHSPA will sponsor a post-graduation dinner immediately following the ceremony. Details will be available at a later date.

Wheelchair Accessibility - There will be handicap parking and wheelchair accessibility to the Canisius High School Auditorium and Kennedy Field House.
