AP Program
As part of its college preparatory curriculum, Canisius High School participates in the College Board’s Advanced Placement (AP) program. AP courses are college-level courses and are offered to qualified students who wish to challenge themselves beyond the already demanding Canisius curriculum.
Canisius High School requires students enrolled in AP courses to take the AP exam, traditionally offered in May of each school year.
In 2024-2025, 314 Canisius students took one or more AP exams, with 564 exams offered in all; the class included 47 AP Scholars, 26 AP Scholars with Honors, and 39 AP Scholars with Distinction.

In addition, students who are not enrolled in an AP course may choose to prepare independently in order to challenge an AP exam. Before doing so, students are encouraged to consult with their content-area teacher to determine whether this option is appropriate. Any questions regarding AP exam challenges should be directed to the Registrar.
