The Canisius Family Life

Our boys, in common, make us all a family. We want to know about any illness or loss that your part of this family might experience throughout the year. This gives us the chance to support our fellow Canisius Family members through thoughts and prayers when we meet each month. Just contact the Principal?s Office or one of the Council members. We?ll get word to Father Ryan.

A Word About Our Council

All Canisius parents are members of the Parents' Association, which is directed by the Council. Each Spring, nominations for the Council are solicited from the parents before Easter Vacation.  Parents can nominate themselves or others as individuals or couples. There are officers, two representatives for each class, and members-at-large. The Council is then elected after Easter. Keep your eyes, ears and mind open next spring.

Daily Mass: Mass is held daily at 7:45 in the Chapel.  All are welcome.

CHSPA Meetings: All meetings start at 7:00 pm. Use the switchboard door entrance.  Meetings will be held in the Cafeteria.

New Parent Orientation Meetings:  Small groups of incoming Freshmen Parents are invited to meet in August at homes of upperclassmen parents.  Helpful information about the school and CHS family life are discussed.  Host families are always needed.

Back to School Night:  Parents follow their son's schedule and briefly meet the teachers.  During "lunch," parents come to the cafeteria for drinks and cookies.

Open House:  We show as much of our school to as many prospective students as possible. CHSPA helps set up, serves food and drink, and helps clean up. 

Parent Phone-a-thon:  October, November and December evenings. This is the parents' part of the Annual Fund Drive.  We need volunteers to call fellow parents from the school.  You can come right from work for a light dinner beforehand.

Staff Luncheons:  Once a month we provide lunch for the entire faculty and staff in appreciation of their dedication to the education of our sons.  This is a great opportunity to meet parents and faculty, and share your recipes. 

Fashion Show:  A fun and surprise-filled night of good food, company and high fashion.  Gift basket auction, parent and student models.

Father/Son Mass and Breakfast:  Mass at St. Michael's followed by breakfast and keynote speaker.  Invitations are mailed to each family.  Boys may choose to invite significant men in their lives.

Christmas Social:  Soda pop and senior-mom-made-cookies for the boys immediately following the Christmas Assembly.   

Mother/Son Social:  Dining and dancing at the Hyatt with your son.  Parents decorate and organize.  Invitations mailed to each family.

Gambit Gift Gathering Party:  Parents contribute a gift for Gambit in return for bar, light dinner and dancing.  Organization, set-up, bartending and clean up is needed. 

Gambit: Elegant party and major fundraiser for the year.  Auction items collected all year.  Help from many parents essential. 

Post Prom Party:  Seniors and dates return to the school for food, prizes, games and dancing. Organizational help, prizes, set-up clean up needed.  Senior parents do not volunteer. 

Senior Awards Luncheon:  We provide light refreshments for seniors and parents after the Awards Assembly. 

Baccalaureate Mass at St Michael's:  Seniors and their parents attend one last Mass together.  CHSPA provides flowers.

Graduation:  CHSPA arranges professional videotaping and still photos for interested graduates to purchase.

Office Assistance:  Any time.  Organize mailings, filing, etc. Call the main office to volunteer.
