The award recognizes outstanding high school students who excel in academics, athletics and in community activities. A joint proclamation of recognition was also awarded to Andrew by the offices of Mayor Byron Browne and County Executive Chris Collins.

Andrew is a graduate of the St. Augustine Scholars program, the Jesuit Nativity/Miguel Middle School of Buffalo. He started his association with CHS during HAP for which he was awarded the Annual Mr. HAP Award in 2004. Andrew has maintained honors level averages throughout his four years and is a member of the National Honor Society as well as SADD. He has also been a four year member of the Basketball Program. He has already been accepted to WPI (Worcester Polythechnical Institute) and The University of Pittsburgh where he hopes to major in civil engineering.

Andrew’s academic accomplishments and his interest in engineering have already earned him several additional honors.  For the past two summer he has been a scholarship participant in the Buffalo Engineering For Minorities Program through the University of Buffalo where he studied in advanced courses and also received a work-study stipend. He has also studied at Canisius College in summer courses. This past summer Andrew was also selected to participate in the prestigious Catalyst Academy at Cornell University where high school students spend on week on the campus immersed in advanced courses in engineering and have a chance to work directly with professors in their field. In addition to these high level programs, Andrew spends part of his summer with his mother in Utah where he volunteers at an agency for mental health patients.

Andrew was selected for the Youth Leadership Award from over one hundred applicants throughout Western New York after being nominated by our own Guidance Department.
