Physical education is required of all four class years at Canisius High School. Each class meets two times per cycle for 40 minutes with a certified physical education instructor. The goal of the physical education curriculum is to develop skills and habits that will contribute to a long and healthy life. Students are encouraged to learn new sports, to eat healthy and learn about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. The program follows a logical progression of learning rules and skill development in a variety of different athletic events.
Additional programs sponsored by the physical education department include weight training after school (supervised by a certified strength and conditioning coach). The department is also responsible for running the intramural program during lunch.
