Academic Achievement at Canisius High School
Academics:
At Canisius High School, every student participates in a challenging yet achievable college preparatory curriculum. Canisius offers an enriched variety of college-preparatory courses including honors and Advanced Placement courses in several disciplines. In the 2007-2008 school year, Canisius High School enrolls over 437 students in 16 Advanced Placement Courses all earning the AP distinction from the College Board.
Canisius High School students are required to enroll in seven college preparatory courses per semester with a passing grade of 70% to earn course credit.
Our Accreditation by the Middle States Association Commission on Secondary Schools (M.S.A.C.S.S.) and membership with the New York State Association of Independent Schools (N.Y.S.A.I.S.) demonstrates our dedication to a college-preparatory curriculum. Furthermore, our learning standards exceed New York State Regents examination expectations and achievement levels.
As a Jesuit school, we believe, along with St. Ignatius of Loyola, under of the Society of Jesus, that everything God has created is worthy of our study and care. Canisius High School students have a commitment to academic excellence that is demonstrated not only through grade achievement, but also by behavior in the classroom and Christian Service projects through our Campus Ministry program.
Our after school remedial program (REACH) is available to assist students that may be experiencing academic difficulties. Furthermore, please contact your son's teacher(s) by phone or email to learn how your son can address any academic or behavioral matters. Our Guidance Department staff is available to facilitate parent-teacher conferences or one on one counseling sessions to enhance your son's experience with any challenges during his Jesuit High School experience.
